#8 Stem Factor by Osmosis

0

Stem Factor Serum from Osmosis based on (older, adult) human adipose-derived stem cells. A few other ingredients including “harmonized water”.  Other products in this line caused several scientists concern, including a “zinc finger” technology.  They are manipulating DNA expression and nucleases?  Do they even know what this means?

Summary

Confused story. A medical brand, with human adipose-derived stem cell conditioned media (good), but combined with a descent into pseudoscience with so-called harmonized water, and a pretense at messing with your DNA and genes via "zinc finger" proteins, detracting from its potential science impact.

2.7

  • The science of adipose derived stem cells and their secretome is well established. No problems there, other than the known tendence of fat stem cells to produce hormones in culture, including leptin and other inflammatory molecules.  The science (or lack of it) for “harmonized water” can be reviewed at this site.  We dock them points for combining something real and proven with something out of Harry Potter’s chemistry text.

  • The general evidence base for products based on the secretagogue of adipose-derived human adult stem cells is good (see bibliography ).  There are no publicly available reported clinical trials for this product, however.

  • The safety track record of  products derived from cell cultures of stem cells and fibroblasts is remarkable.  To date, there have been no reports of adverse effects. The concerns with this product relate to other ingredients, and some of the claims. It contains “harmonized water” which is scientifically a  non-entity.  See this excellent site by a water chemist as a starting point. Suggests the folks who are formulating and marketing this product have limited understanding of science, especially physics and chemistry. The legitimate question therefore might be – do they know what they are doing in terms of conditioned media? Have they measured cytokine composition? Several unanswered questions.

  • Unknown composition cocktails of cytokines that may be inflammatory in nature has issues. The use of adipose stem cells may limit the impact of this product. The harmonized water nonsense further diminishes the impact of this product by calling into question the credibility of the team who designs and markets the products.

Growth factors cannot penetrate through the epidermis unless they navigate the hair follicle and no combination does that better than our patent-pending liposome coated growth factor serum. Growth factors play a role in all aspects of wound healing including collagen and elastin production, new blood vessel formation, scar tissue revision and removal, melanocyte repair and much more. As we age, our skin sees a decline in the number of growth factors available in the skin. The goal of StemFactor is to restore your skin’s growth factors to a level previously seen when we were young. Derived from pristine, adult stem cells, this magical serum improves all aspects of aging and skin damage. There are some disturbing statements in this, like “Osmosis Stem Factor has more fibroblasts and macrophages” which is weird because of course it contains neither (and shouldn’t). It lists highly inflammatory cytokines & growth factors, but makes no mention of ever having measured them.

Elsewhere it is explained that the conditioned media is from (older adult/adipose/fat) stem cells.
